Have phone record GPS track, then sync that track once you are done shooting to camera to geotag photos. Well, there's at least two trivial and obviously better solutions. And Bluetooth would allow controlling camera from phone in much less clumsy way than when using WiFi. External GPS trackers also have much longer battery life than phone too. Gary Friedman's latest newsletter had an interesting article about why in-camera GPS is going away. I charge the phone each night and run it all day. So I can run it on the phone all day when travelling. It only turns the location functionality of the phone on when it's about to record a point (unless you use the option to have it running all the time), and so battery drain is minimised. And I can choose the format for the logs and upload them to dropbox or similar each night. You can also set the minimum 'accuracy' of each point and a retry interval to get a more accurate point. It has options to control how often you log points - by time and or distance.
